How to make a technical speech/presentation original and impressive.
Gilyazov, Danil ; Kotásek, Miroslav (referee) ; Walek, Agata (advisor)

The result of the project is a short video documentation of reciprocal lesson given by the twerking instructress and the teacher of the rhetoric. We can easily observe how the smart nonverbal choreography of speech is joining the erotically explicit dance. Women bodies are shot by camera during the training. They exercise proper breathing techniques first, then nonverbal expression and finally they try to articulate diverse notions on twerking. After the rhetoric lesson is given, they change the positions of teacher and the person being taught. It's time to learn how to twerk. In the final sequence we can see both women performing short twerk choreography on hip-hop music track made originally for the project.

Rhetoric of US Foreign Environmental Policy: Case Study of the Paris Agreement
Štěpařová, Tereza ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (referee)
The Paris Agreement represents a landmark international environmental agreement that received extensive political, journalistic, and academic attention, and the United States played a key role in the negotiation process. This thesis presents a comprehensive overview of determinants that can impact the U.S. approach to international environmental politics, and it focuses on a detailed discourse analysis of U.S. federal political elites' rhetoric on the Paris Agreement, comparing two time periods - the second term of the Obama presidency and the Trump administration. The analysis demonstrates a strong alignment of political ideology with partisanship, dividing the Democratic and Republican argumentation into rhetorical opposition, and proves the significant influence of the highly polarized two-party system on the U.S. environmental rhetoric. However, applying Putnam's two-level game framework, the case study also demonstrates that even Democratic politicians approached pragmatic rhetoric on topics such as the U.S. economy, economic growth, or U.S. leadership, and employed creative narratives that addressed the pragmatic concerns of the American public to gain support for their progressive foreign policy agenda represented by the Paris Agreement in the end result. The paper presents the rhetorical...
The psalms' rhetoric of suffering
Jonczy, Roman ; Sláma, Petr (advisor) ; Vymětal, Mikuláš (referee)
Psalms have fascinated many for centuries. They are the prayers of the people of Israel, widely used in Christianity as well. The psalms are not only a source of inspiration but above all the concentrated experience of those, who call themselves Jehovah's worshipers. The concentrated experience of life presents many shocking testimonie about the relationship between man and God, especially if one is experiencing suffering and God becomes the only true source of salvation to a man facing a hopeless situation. The person refers to this source in his speech, and he recites his requests and his calls. This thesis attempts to examine and approach the mechanism of the speech of the Psalmist, who, in his crisis, reverts to the fact that he believes God will free him from this situation. The theologians Walter Brueggeman and Claus Westrmann contributed to the mapping of this mechanism by extraordinary insights, from which the author of this work also draws. In this thesis I describe the phases of complaints and praises, each of which consists of individual steps: addressing, complaining, pleading, motivation, cursing but also assurance of hearing, promise and praise. Keywords Bruggemann, Westrmann, psalm, psalmist, old testament, crisis, suffering, prayer, complaint, plea, motivation, curse, praise, God,...
Discursive annihilation of negative implications as a method of defence of enhanced interrogation techniques
Janovec, Adam ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
The thesis, entitled Discursive annihilation of negative implications as a method of defence of enhanced interrogation techniques, presents a qualitative content analysis of the public rhetorical output of U.S. government officials in order to identify the mechanics by which they attempted to advocate enhanced interrogation techniques. In addition to providing context for the conditions under which enhanced interrogation techniques were developed, the thesis provides insight into the nature of the controversy surrounding them, which made the entire issue one of the most critical topics of the George W. Bush administration. The extent of the negative public response toward the revelation of the deployment of interrogation techniques with incorporated elements of physical violence in questioning sessions conducted by U.S. security forces led to the need for an immediate response by senior government officials. In order to mitigate the potential impact on the legitimacy of state institutions, their leaders have resorted to transform the existing political discourse through the use of a variation of linguistic figures in their rhetoric. The most significant component of the thesis is represented by the analysis of a set of written outputs of selected representatives of the state and state security...
The Role of Understanding in Latin Rhetoric
Golian, Richard ; Doležalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Synek, Stanislav (referee)
The thesis deals with understanding in the rhetorical art of Marcus Fabius Quintilianus, Marcus Tullius Cicero, and the author of the Rhetorica ad Herennium, how they understood their art and how they took into account comprehension on the part of the listener. The starting point of the investigation is phenomenological. It is based on Martin Heidegger's definition of the phenomenon of interpretation from Being and Time. The structure of practical interpretation and the fore-structures in which each interpretation is grounded are traced in theoretical texts of rhetorical art. This allows for a deeper analysis of the understanding that speakers mention and for capturing understanding even where they are not explicitly thematized. The analysis of the texts is divided into two parts. The first deals with understanding on the part of the speaker. The connection between the practical interpretation of rhetoric and the convergence of Roman rhetorical art and philosophy is shown. The second analytical section is devoted primarily to the listener's understanding, the connection of interpretation to attunement and proof. It traces the role that understanding plays in what takes place between the speaker, his adversary, and the listener, and how the listener should understand what is being used against him...
